Dear Dad

Sartorial tips for the man who's just had eye surgery.

The knitted eyepatch is an attractive and practical fashion accessory at this time of year. It's quick and easy to make, and you can use your favourite colour wool.

Then, when you've recovered, and only need half a pair of glasses, why not try a classic look?

And of course, since you close one eye for the important stuff anyway, you can still enjoy your favourite leisure pursuit, with no concessions on style or standards.

Hi MamaDuck - what was your Dad's op - I hope it was something like a cataract removal - he's the right age and the removal of a cataract is just unbelievable!! (I know, I had one removed when I was 30) Whatever it was, I hope he's OK.

Lots of love

B

PS Went into work on Thursday and found the Christmas card from you but haven't read it yeat and forgot to bring it home!

Hi sweetie! Yup, cataract. His brother had cataracts removed from both eyes a couple of years back, and went from bottle-bottom lenses to no specs at all. Fantastic. Dad's really looking forward to having a good eye - but given that he can thrash most people atpool anyway, I don't know what he's talking about: ;)

Back at work - be brave!
