We just watched Ridley Scott's latest: A Good Year, which has had reviews of the 'nice, predictable, old-man's-going-soft' variety.
It's got Russell Crowe - usually a good sign.
It's got Albert Finney - usually to die for - and Freddie Highmore - also a good sign.Also Tom Hollander, who I really liked as Mr Collins in the Not-the-BBC Pride & Prejudice.
And Archie Panjabi, who I've never seen before, but will look out for in future.
And Didier Bourdon, Isabelle Candelier and Jacques Herlin as the entertaining live-in force-to-be-reckoned-with. (I've read all the Spanish-based versions of this story!)
It's got French light, French stone, French je-ne-sais-quoi, an entertaining screenplay and some satisfying camera-work. Yeah, of course we were fairly sure how it would end - but it was fun watching it work itself out.
We liked it.

I watched this on the plane back from Melbourne and was really enjoying it - until they turned off the entertainment system as we came in to land!
I still have about 30 mins to watch of it when I fly back to Oz in a month!
The Boss Man and I watched it twice in a few days. He loved it and so did I. I think he was enamoured with the young French beauty, but also the thought of actually living on a farm-like estate to his content. Don't we all now?
